The band line-up seems stronger than ever and Navel have found each other, which is clearly shown on the current album. After their oppressive masterpiece "Neo Noir" (2011) came "Loverboy" (2013), an album that surprised many. Musically, they opened up to Native American music, allowing more folk, blues and country to flow into the usual dark rock cosmos - but remained true to the navel sound and recognizable.
The title of the new album "Songs of Woe" speaks volumes. It stays dark, it's about tales of woe, the blues remains part and despite further development they have their sound. NAVEL go back to what was in the past. A feel for songs that take their time to settle down. The path from grunge led feedback-soaked and noisy to Americana and back again. Now they give the whole thing new colors and quality. The beauty of the entire album lies in an almost unapproachable aura, a nasty hunk and a sneaky and maliciously creeping album. Navel are back and have climbed another peak. Full of suffering and self-doubt.
