Anger MGMT.
It is certainly the times that are driving art and culture back to angry statements. ANGER MGMT are one of those bands that want to say something. They consider the content to be just as valuable as the music. A band that takes a stand, that is restless and politically active.
ANGER MGMT’s band name says it all. Here, music is used as an outlet to transform anger into something creative. Contemporary, hard, rough with edges, yet catchy, covered with a slightly melancholic wave shadow. Post-punk, punk, grunge, garage rock… An explosive mixture with a lot of punk rock DNA. Shimmering post-punk guitars and blasting blast beats underpin catchy hooklines. Lyrics that overwhelm with their honesty and a raw voice reminiscent of the independent bands of the 90s.
Frontman and singer Nik Petronijevic sings a lot about his own experiences with anxiety disorder, suicidal thoughts, and the latent feeling of not belonging. Despite all these dark themes, the album also provides support and hope and aims to release positive energy and dissolve anger into energy. Nik has suffered from severe anxiety disorder and depression since childhood. He has confronted this illness and is working to destigmatize it as a mental health activist on radio, TV, in interviews, podcasts, and on stage. He is courageous, self-confident, and a role model for those who are unable to do so and hide themselves away or cannot escape the downward spiral.
The band also addresses political and social issues, offers criticism, and does not spout cheap slogans and catchphrases. The three members of the band are no strangers to their scene and have gained experience in other bands (check out: The Shattered Mind Machine). Self-released singles, videos, dozens of shows, and support slots for international bands show the energy and DIY mentality that the trio possesses.
