With VUG, it should be clear after just a few bars what’s on the menu: heavy 70s rock. Blues rock, proto-metal, heavy and dark... But their self-titled debut is anything but a bland rehash of their influences; instead, it clearly has its own distinct character.  Above all, though, they’ve found their own sound within the genre.

Don’t lump VUG in with the ethereal intellectuals and delicate ’70s flower children—they rock with their legs spread wide, stay rough-and-tumble,   have certainly seen a few Scandinavian bands, know the city map of Motor City Detroit by heart, and have probably also heard one or two bands from 90s Seattle. Vug have their own style. A dark rock that reveals a breathtaking play of colors and all sorts of different structures within—just like a “Vug.”
