In the summer of 1997, the band FIREWATER was formed in a Brooklyn basement. And ex-cop shoot cop mastermind Tod A dared a new mix somewhere between punk rock and Jewish gypsy music... Fans and critics were always enthusiastic and confused at the same time. The press celebrated the new heroes, but stylistic questions remained unanswered to this day. More than a decade and a half and 7 albums later, Tod's sound ideas continue to seem extraordinary.

Bands like Gogol Bordello, Balkan Beat Box and Beirut (in which all of them old FIREWATER bandmates play) sailed past the master commercially in similar sound worlds, but the master refined his sound from album to album and undeterred broadened his horizons, remaining unpredictable.

Right from the start, the albums reflect this colourful, musical mixture that seems confusing at first glance: Spy Jazz, Ska; Classic Bollywood, salsa, cabaret, Mexican banda, klezmer and Russian folk music meet American indie rock and punk, an incomparable mix that always sounds 100% like FIREWATER. Who knows great songwriting and is always fun.
