GEORGIA (2026)

“Georgia” is an extraordinary post-rock album that blends instrumental soundscapes with centuries-old Georgian vocal traditions, launching a series of releases that redefine the boundaries between rock, tradition, and global music culture.

THE LIGHT BELOW collaborates with the Georgian women’s choir AKHLA, whose traditional folk songs originate from various regions of Georgia. These traditional songs have been reinterpreted and arranged to uniquely merge with the instrumental post-rock elements. A standout moment on the album is “Tsinskharo”—a song originally sung by men, which gained worldwide fame through Werner Herzog’s Nosferatu (1979). The new version will be released as the first single and accompanied by a two-part music video. (Part 1: December 16, 2025 / Part 2: January 7, 2026)

The instrumental portion of the album was recorded by Steve Albini. His unmistakable, raw production aesthetic lends “Georgia” its immediate clarity and intensity. The vocal recordings by the Akhla Choir were made in Berlin. It’s no surprise that the musicians also have experience in film music. Frank Binke received a 2020 Grammy nomination for Best Spoken Word Album with The LA String Theory, and Patric Christensen has also composed film scores, including for Wim Wenders and international series such as Dark and Breaking Bad.

The cover and artwork—created by Dan Abbott and Daniel Schnatterer—translate the musical vision into a powerful visual language and underscore the connection between tradition and modernity. “Georgia” unfolds a distinctive soundscape of monumental guitar walls, introspective passages, and epic crescendos. It blends the emotions and stories of Georgian folk songs with the drama of post-rock—an album that builds bridges between cultures. Through joint live performances, THE LIGHT BELOW aim to further strengthen this connection and make the universal power of music tangible.
