Just in time for the band’s 10th anniversary, the “fuzzed-out Norwegian psych rock trio” is releasing its tenth album, which is simply and aptly titled “Kanaan.” The trio continues to build on the solid musical foundation the band has forged over the past decade—and that’s a good thing, because “With Kanaan, we’re approaching earthquake territory,” the band confidently declares.
With their versatile new album, Kanaan delves even deeper into the diverse genres that have shaped their music over the years. Melodic passages are even more pronounced and catchy, psychedelic sections are wilder and more unbridled, and the retro-analog sounds feel even more vintage and raw. And as for the riffs, there’s certainly no holding back—they’re fatter and heavier than ever.
But even as KANAAN continue to evolve, their distinctive sound remains intact. The band itself describes their new album as a celebration of everything they’ve achieved musically and artistically so far—but also of everything they’ve experienced and accomplished as close friends who make music together.
The members have grown up, yet their musical curiosity, creativity, and creative drive are stronger than ever. Their willingness to truly immerse themselves in the music day and night in the studio—to play, jam, compose, and live in it—remains as strong as ever. They describe their time at “Athletic Sound” in Halden as a kind of black hole where only the band, sound engineer Dag Erik Johansen, and the music existed. As if life weren’t hectic enough already….
